THE MILANESE AND EUROPEAN GIUSEPPE PARINI

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to verify the European dimension of giuseppe Parini’s literary production, which was the reason to examine his major work, Il Giorno, including the printed versions and later expanded editions. References to other Parini’s works are offered as much as possible on this occasion. The national edition of Parini’s works is not completed yet, but the existing part has been consulted. It has been thus attested that Parini’s classical and Christian education and his knowledge of a major international culture helped him create his masterpiece by making a plethora of connections and allusions which are not only literary, but refer to Europe as well.
