Abstract

This paper focuses on the status of womаn in Serbian literature, emphasizing the achievements of Serbian women writers in the Serbian literary tradition. It shows a strong relation between the status of womеn writers in Serbian literature and the status of womеn in Serbian society. Through literary work, Serbian women writers were fighting for women’s rights and better status of women in Serbian society. Therefore, these women represent a kind of heroines of their time. This struggle for women's emancipation was especially active at the end of the 19th and in the beginning of the 20th century. During this period Serbian women writers and feminists established first women's magazines and founded different women's associations and circles whose main intention was to help girls and women get their independence.
