Abstract

This paper ventures into the omnipresent realm of literary truth and fiction, the topics of huge importance in the theory of literature, from the times of ancient Greece to this day. Since the topic of truth in literature is closely associated with the very meaning of literature itself, the first part of the paper will deal with some theoretical approaches to that topic. The second and main part will deal with the hermeneutics of Johann Georg Hamann as a possible means of uncovering the truth behind a work of literature. Hamann and his work have a very special importance in the Serbian reception of German thinkers since there has been very few attempts to present his work in these circles, thus any attempt to showcase this eminent irrationalist and his work here could be considered a large progress in that field of study.
