LANGUAGE AND AGE – LINGUISTIC CONTENT AND LINGUISTIC CHARACTERISTICS TYPICALLY MENTIONED IN RESEARCHES

The goal of the research is to establish which linguistic characteristics are typically mentioned in different empirical researches of the process of acquisition/learning foreign languages in different age. In the first part of the paper, we shall dare to use acquisition of mother tongue as the starting point. Then we shall compare the two seemingly completely separated and different processes: acquisition of mother tongue in early age and acquisition/learning of one or more foreign languages in later age. We shall establish all similarities and differences that appear due to closing critical thresholds in different periods and their influence to final achievement “like source speakers” in acquisition/learning foreign language.
