SERBIAN ORIGINAL AND/OR TRANSLATED LITERATURE: SERBIAN AUTHORS AS TRANSLATORS OF POETRY
Keywords:
serbian original literature, translated literatureAbstract
This paper questions the authorship of poetry translations from foreign languages, a job done in the past centuries by the hand of many great Serbian poets: did they merely transpose the original into Serbian, or did they create new poetry, their own, Serbian, starting from foreign models? As the job of literary translating is now considered, rightly, an art form, we propose that the recreation of foreign poetry in another language, your own native tongue, shouould also be viewed (thouough it has not been, until now) as an act of writing poetry.
