THE PROCESS OF PERVERSE DESIRE LOGIC BECOMING LEGITIMATE IN THE NOVEL CRASH BY J. G. BALLARD

Abstract

This paper deals with the logic and legislative programme of perverse sexual desire initiated and consolidated throught the performative transformational acts of car crashes, due to the activity of Vaughan, a performer artist character in Ballard`s novel Crash. In the course of this paper, an analysis of Crash`s obsessive-compulsive, fetishistic, hetero and (especially) homoerotic sexual narrative discourse is presented through the legalising and authorizing reiterative strategies, which function as to justify the „surplus“ value of Vaughan`s accumulated sadisticperformative, violently body-inscriptive acts and his „omnipotent“ mystified appearances. Finally, the paper deals with ambivalence which exists in a framework of a new-established perverse order (situated in a context of western sociopolitical climate of the late capitalism), the ambivalence of simultanious liberation and bondage, subversion of the conservative sexual laws and simultaniously legalised „conservativism“ through which, in a paradoxical manner, the „double-blind“ knot of a perverse structure is maintained.
